OUR CORRESPONDENT The Journalists’ Association for Assam (JAFA) has strongly condemned the arrest of two senior women journalists Revati and Tanvi Yadav in Telangana for reporting on the plight of a farmer under the Congress-led government. In an official statement, expressed deep concern over the suppression of press freedom and the harassment of journalists who serve as the fourth pillar of democracy. The statement, signed by JAFA’s Central President Abhideep Chowdhury, Executive President Pankaj Deka, and Secretary General Kunja Mohan Roy, criticized the Telangana Government’s actions, calling them an attack on the fundamental rights of journalists and the democratic values of the nation.

“The arrest of these two journalists is a blatant attempt to silence independent reporting and restrict the press from carrying out its duty to inform the public. We strongly condemn this move and demand their unconditional release,” the statement read. JAFA also urged the Government to respect press freedom and refrain from intimidating journalists who expose issues affecting the public.

They emphasized that such actions set a dangerous precedent and undermine democracy by curbing the role of the media in holding those in power accountable. The association called upon journalist unions across the country, human rights organizations, and civil society groups to unite in solidarity against such oppressive measures. JAFA further appealed to the Central Government and the Press Council of India to intervene and ensure the immediate release of the two detained journalists.

This incident has sparked outrage among media professionals and free speech advocates, who see it as part of a larger trend of growing hostility toward journalists. Also Read: Also Watch:.
