A CORRESPONDENT : In a significant breakthrough, security forces uncovered a hidden cache of and ammunition buried in the jungle near Khwbra Village, Batashipur, under Dhekiajuli Police Station today. The operation carried out by the Dhekiajuli Police in coordination with the Sonitpur Police Headquarters based on credible intelligence inputs revealed a concerning stockpile of deadly weapons. The recovered items, carefully wrapped in a polythene bag and concealed at the site, included five 36 type hand grenades and 3 detonators.

This recovery is a major success for the Sonitpur Police especially in light of heightened security measures ahead of the Republic Day celebrations in the Co-District area. However, bomb disposal experts noted that one of the grenades had a damaged pin/lever raising immediate safety concerns. As a precaution, the defective grenade has been securely stored under armed guard while awaiting neutralization by the Army’s Bomb Disposal (BD) squad.

Efforts are underway to ensure its safe disposal as soon as possible to avert any potential hazard. Police officials confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the arms and identify those responsible for their illegal storage in the area. Also Read: Also Watch:.
