GUWAHATI: A clip that shows Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia yelling at state minister Jayanta Malla Baruah in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has caused a stir and evoked sharp criticism from the Congress. The video, which was said to have been recorded on Tuesday during the inauguration of the BJP mandal office at Bahjani, Nalbari district, depicts Saikia walking swiftly towards Baruah and threatening to raise his voice, while the Chief Minister is standing alongside them. While the words are not discernible, the tension is apparent.
As per party sources, Saikia was visibly agitated after being refused entry into the event hall when Chief Minister Sarma, Minister Baruah, and the mandal president of the area were already present inside. He allegedly confronted Baruah, who is also the MLA of the Nalbari constituency, asking how such a lapse could happen in his constituency. When questioned on the incident, Assam BJP spokesman Manoj Baruah brushed off the incident as an "internal matter" and refused to comment any further.
Neither Dilip Saikia nor Jayanta Malla Baruah has publicly spoken about the showdown yet. Replying sharply, Assam Congress president Bhupen Borah was quick to seize the moment to bring focus to what he portrayed as increasing tensions in the BJP. He dubbed the altercation as an indication of a rift between the party's "RSS-loyalists" and its "new guard.
" Borah set Saikia's decades-long trajectory within the RSS and BJP against the relatively recent induction of leaders such as Sarma and Baruah, who both jumped ship to the BJP from the Congress in the last decade. In a caustic tweet on X (formerly Twitter), Borah ridiculed the Chief Minister's silence at the time, "Just see how the CM who enjoys boasting about his bravery and masculinity by incarcerating commoners, journalists and Congress spokespersons, hesitated in front of the BJP state president..
. nice to see you lose your voice. You always thought more about your chair than your self-respect.
Here is the latest proof." ALSO READ: ALSO WATCH:.
