A CORRESPONDENT International Bhaona artiste and writer, researcher and a resident of Sangia Major Chook Arup Saikia has been invited to the USA to deliver a lecture on . He will deliver lectures at Rutgers University in New Jersey in October this year. Besides that, Arup Saikia will attend multiple events of Assamese Diaspora across America and Canada.
The theme of his interaction in the University of Rutgers will be about his recently published book ‘Sankardeva, The Social Scientist.’ Previously, Saikia was invited to the University of Moscow for a discourse on ‘Sankardeva and Neo–Vaishnavism of Assam.’ Author Arup Saikia has been tirelessly working for a long time to promote the vision of Sankardeva worldwide.
Saikia is also a prominent Bhaona artiste of Assam. He is the first person to perform Bhaona in the English language, popularly known as ‘English Bhaona.’ Arup Saikia has written many books about the Vaishnavite culture of Assam.
Few of his prominent books are ‘ and Assamese Society,’ ‘Bhaona Unmesh,’ ‘Bhoroli to Volga,’ ‘Sankardeva Aru Naba Vaishnavbad,’ poetry book ‘Sabda, Silpi Satta,’ etc. Saikia sees Sankardeva as a social figure eschewing his religious tag. During his journey, he will attend a workshop on Sattriya dance to be organized by Namghar Association of America, Inc (NAAM) on the auspicious occasion of the annual celebration of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev’s birth anniversary as a resource person.
