Former UFC fighter Ben Askren has described Conor McGregor as an addict. McGregor’s UFC career has derailed since his UFC 264 defeat against Dustin Poirier in 2021. That was the third loss of his last four UFC fights as he suffered a broken leg.

He was set to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303 on June 29 but pulled out with a broken toe. Chandler will now rematch Charles Oliveira at UFC 309. Dana White has said that McGregor will return early next year, but his next opponent remains to be seen.

During his time out of the octagon, McGregor had been spotted partying on numerous occasions. McGregor’s Issues The two-weight UFC champion is known for his Forge Irish Stout beverage, something which he promotes heavily. The product has sponsored combat sports events, including BKFC, where he is currently a part owner.

However, numerous videos have shown McGregor hitting the clubs as well as drinking his beverage. This goes against the idea of a disciplined athlete. Even for the Chandler fight, McGregor revealed that he would stay sober for his camp to give himself the best shot at winning.

While the fight was called off due to his injury, McGregor continued drinking. This raises serious questions about whether he will be the same fighter when he returns to the octagon. McGregor admitted that he had been drinking during the build-up for his fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov .

He ultimately came up short, losing via a submission. There is also speculation from other fighters that McGregor has been using performance-enhancing drugs. Sean O’Malley previously referred to McGregor as a ‘drug addict.

’ Askren Reacts While there is nothing to suggest that, since he has never tested positive, Askren felt that McGregor’s partying lifestyle indicated that he was an addict. That would not bode well for his UFC return if he desires to be one of the best fighters in the world. “It’s pretty obvious, to me, that Conor McGregor is an addict.

And he is rich enough, that it doesn’t really have a hugely negative impact on his life. Everyone just kind of like lets him do what he wants to do. But this guy clearly is out partying, can’t show up for training camp.

And then because he can’t show up for training camp, he can’t get ready for a fight. There’s videos of him partying, constantly. And listen, if you’re rich and famous, and you’re not murdering anyone or anything worse where you’re going to go to jail, I guess fine, whatever.

Go live your life. But he kind of dragged on that he was going to fight for two years. “So it’s really annoying, but I was on record saying he wasn’t fighting in 2023.

That Michael Chandler should move on and say ‘Hey, you’re not a serious fighter anymore, you’re an addict and you can’t train’. I’ve said that many times..

. probably both [drugs and alcohol]. I don’t know that I can make any pronouncements without seeing him do it.

But I’ve watched videos enough to know that this guy is out of control...

and from all rumors, he’s on multiple substances,” Askren said This article first appeared on BoxingNews.com and was syndicated with permission..
