Republican vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance called out CNN host Jake Tapper Sunday over coverage of the “Russia Hoax” when Tapper asked a slew of questions about recent comments made by the former president.

Former Trump chief of staff John Kelly told the New York Times that Trump meets the definition of a fascist in an article released Tuesday. Tapper repeatedly pressed Vance with questions likening Trump to the “dictator” Kelly claimed he would rule as, but Vance brought up CNN’s coverage of false claims of Russian interference in the 2016 election. “Ask yourself a basic question on network integrity.

You guys talked about the Russia Hoax non-stop,” Vance said. “The FBI was investigating it!” Tapper interjected. “The FBI was investigating it so we were covering that—” “And so you took the words of unnamed FBI agents and put them on your network as though they were the gospel truth.

You did it again and again,” Trump’s running mate chided. Vance admonished CNN for leading viewers to incorrectly believe former President Donald Trump conspired with Russian President Vladimir Putin to interfere in the 2016 election. Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign paid a tech firm that “exploited” access to Trump Tower and later at the White House in an attempt to link Trump to Russia.

Tapper said “no” various times as the GOP vice presidential candidate called out his network, repeating the argument that CNN covered the FBI investigation. “If you have an issue with whether or not he’s talking about the economy enough, that’s between you and your running mate. I’m talking about things he has said this week.” Vance assured Tapper that Trump talks at length about topics concerning the American people at every single campaign rally, including remarks on energy, housing, and the border.

“Kamala Harris and her media allies — and I would put CNN in this category,” Vance said, prompting an immediate rejection from Tapper of CNN’s alliance with Harris. “You guys seem to care more about Donald Trump’s past than the future of the American people. We’re running this campaign on making the American Dream affordable,” Vance added.
