Hulunbuir (China): India edged past a stubborn Chinese side in the Asian Champions Trophy 2024 final to clinch a record-extending fifth continental title. China’s low block defending prevented India from scoring in the three quarters but Jugraj Singh broke the deadlock in the 50th minute converting from a smart assist from skipper Harmanpreet.

The home crowd did its best to motivate their side to fight back but the Team in Red failed to find an equaliser. The victory gave India, the most successful side in the history of the tournament, an unprecedented fifth ACT title. India had defeated Korea 4-1 in the semifinal on Monday to set up a final with China, who stunned Pakistan in the other semifinal.

China, despite finishing in second place, would be proud of their performance in the contest and overall in the tournament. The hosts had entered their first-ever final after stunning Pakistan in the semifinal on Monday via a penalty shootout.

The Chinese defenders made life difficult for the Indians who failed to break the Chinese defence in the first three quarters. India successfully defended the title they won in 2023 after beating Malaysia 4-3 in the final.

While India have won five titles, Pakistan is the second most successful side with two titles. Click for more latest Others Sports news. Also get top headlines and latest news from India and around the world at News9.
