This Fall Ashley Ridge placed higher than it ever has at a boys’ swimming state championships meet. The Swamp Foxes tallied 255.50 points during the 2024 5A Division 1 Boys Swimming Championships Oct.
19 in Columbia to place third out of 24 teams. JL Mann won the meet with 459.50 team points and Wando was the state runner-up with 309 points.
Summerville (180) placed eighth and Fort Dorchester (41.50) placed 20th. Summerville’s Ivan Wilson captured an individual state championship, finishing the 50-yard Freestyle with a 21.
30 time to place first. He also placed fourth in the 100 Free with a 47.70 time.
The Green Wave’s Will Cumbie placed fourth in the 500 Free with a 4:53.22 time and ninth in the 50 Free. Summerville’s Jackson Jarrard placed eighth in the 100 Backstroke.
The Summerville 200 Free Relay team of Cumbie, Luke Otey, Connor Harriott and Wilson placed sixth. The Green Wave 200 Medley Relay team of Cumbie, Luke Foster, Jarrard and Wilson placed seventh. Nathan Lindsey led the Swamp Foxes, placing fourth in the 200 IM with a 1:58.
23 time and fifth in the 100 Backstroke with a 54.45 time. Ashley Ridge’s James Young placed sixth in the 100 Free.
Karter Gladis placed seventh in the 100 Breaststoke and 10th in the 100 Butterfly. Ethan Wilson placed 10th in the 200 Free. Landon Berghoff placed 10th in the 500 Free.
The Ashely Ridge 200 Medley Relay team of Lindsey, Landen Piscitelli, Gladis and Young placed sixth. The Swamp Foxes’ 200 Free Relay team of Wilson, Young, Livy Williams and Gladis placed seventh. The Ashley Ridge 400 Free Relay team of Wilson, Berghoff, Lindsey and Williams placed fifth with a 3:24.
61 time. Samuel Menken led Fort Dorchester, placing 13th in the 100 Free and 15th in the 50 Free and teaming up with Brady Coppo, Christian Thibault and Leif Bergmann to help the Patriots’ 200 Medley Relay team to a 13th place finish..
