Ashley Ridge faces Summerville in a key 5A Region 8 series this week. The Swamp Foxes are coming off an expected sweep of region opponent Stall last week. Ashley Ridge played a double-header with Stall April 2 and defeated the Warriors 17-0 and 10-0.

The Swamp Foxes wrapped up the series at Stall April 14 with a 16-0 win to improve to 4-2 in the region. “We got a bunch of hits and pitched well,” said Ashley Ridge coach BJ Bellush. “Everyone played for us and Cohen Parker and Hunter Hunt both had a homerun.

We have Summerville next week so we will see how that goes.” Sophomore Braxton Sherrouse pitched the first game. Senior Alan Carden pitched the second and senior Ethan Lopez pitched the third.

They all went the distance on the hill though all three games ended early due to the mercy rule. Ashley Ridge enters the series against Summerville tied with Fort Dorchester for second place in the region. Summerville dropped three straight games to James Island last week to fall to 3-3 in the region while the Trojans (6-0) moved into first place.

After a pair of tight games ended with the Trojans ahead 5-3 and 8-3, that series closed at James Island with the Trojans claiming a 12-1 victory. Summerville hosts Ashley Ridge at 7 p.m.

Monday, April 7, travels to Ashley Ridge for the second game at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 9 and hosts the finale at 7 p.

m. Friday, April 11. The competitiveness of games between the teams rarely disappoints.

Adding to the possible excitement is the fact that Summerville defeated the Swamp Foxes 2-1 in the Lower State finals last season, but had to forfeit the final win due to a pitch count violation so Ashley Ridge advanced to the 5A Baseball State Championship series instead..
