A CORRESPONDENT A grand event, 'Gantang', was held in Ninu village, Longding district, to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the historic 1875 Anglo-Wancho War. The event honored the Wancho warriors who resisted British forces. Arunachal Pradesh Minister for Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Fisheries, Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs, and Food & Civil Supply, , presided over the event as Chief Guest.
He hailed the day as historic for the state, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to pay tribute to the warriors. Minister Wangsu shared his discovery of a rare photograph of Wancho warriors taken during the war, which helped shed light on this crucial historical event and bring recognition to the community's struggle and resilience. "We must reflect on the hardships and sacrifices of our ancestors.
Their resistance ensured that the British could not subjugate us. Today, their bravery defines our identity. It is our duty to honor them and keep their legacy alive," he said.
He thanked the Arunachal Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister , for recognizing the Wancho heroes and reviving their history. "Our government is committed to recognizing the sacrifices of our indigenous warriors. The work of the State Core Committee on Unsung Heroes, led by DCM Chowna Mein, is commendable," he stated.
Minister Wangsu also acknowledged the research of Nepha Wangsa, author of "The Nginu Massacre," who has been instrumental in advocating for the recognition of Arunachal's unsung heroes. Also Read: Also Watch:.
