The internet is divided over the democratization of art even as ChatGPT users fill the internet with the filth of AI-generated Ghibli portraits. Most of the users aren’t even aware of a large body of work from the famed Japanese animation studio. The latest fad among users has humiliatingly demeaned the decades of passionate labor of Mr.
Hayao Miyazaki’s magical universe of Spirited Away, Ponyo, Porco Rosso, Kiki’s Delivery, and other beloved films into a freaking filter. Amid all the raging debate about the ethics and legality of OpenAI releasing image generation models that evidently work by plagiarizing copyrighted content, the AI bot’s feature is now free for all users. However, artists across the globe are now doubling up their fight against the AI slop, posting hand-drawn art.
