Former Arsenal winger and interim manager Freddie Ljungberg took an X-rated swipe at Jamie Carragher after the Liverpool legend called Mohamed Salah "selfish" for speaking out about his contract Arsenal legend Freddie Ljungberg has labelled Jamie Carragher 's comments about Mohamed Salah ’s Liverpool contract saga “bull****”. Talk surrounding Salah’s unresolved contract at Anfield rampages on with the legendary Reds forward’s deal expiring at the end of the season . As it stands, the Egyptian is free to join another club in the summer and can freely speak to clubs abroad as soon as next month.

The 32-year-old – who has 13 goals and 11 assists already this season – sparked concern over his future last month by candidly talking to reporters after the 3-2 win over Southampton. Salah expressed his “disappointment” at not yet being offered a new deal by the Reds, amid reports of interest from Saudi Arabia , and confirmed that he is “probably more out than in”. Former Reds defender Carragher responded by claiming Salah’s public calls for contract talks are not helpful to the club, as they look to continue their staggering form both domestically and in Europe.

The Sky Sports pundit said: “The most important thing for Liverpool Football Club this season is not the future of Mo Salah. “It's not the future of Virgil van Dijk and it's not the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold. The most important thing is Liverpool winning the Premier League .

That is more important than any of those players, and if he continues to put comments out, or his agent keeps putting tweets out, that's selfish. That's thinking about themselves and not the football club." But former Gunners Invincible Ljungberg has now rushed to Salah’s defence by slamming Carragher’s assessment of the situation.

The Swede pointed out that Salah’s comments suggest he wants to stay, with the club being “disrespectful” to their long-serving player, rather than the other way around. Talking on Swedish TV, the ex-Arsenal coach said: “I think that it is very disrespectful on the part of the club. Not as Jamie Carragher is trying to make it out to be – that it is Mo Salah who is disrespectful.

“Sorry, but that's bull****. If you have a player of that calibre as Salah, if you don't want to extend with him and he wants to leave – then tell him. ‘We will show you respect, you are too old and want too much.

Financially, it doesn't work for us.’ “Salah is saying this because he wants to put pressure on the club to get a new contract. He wants to stay when he does that.

” The Egyptian took a swipe at Carragher in his post-match interview after a man of the match display in the 2-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday. When asked again about his contract situation, Salah said: "Honestly, it's in my head. Until now this is the last City game I will play for, so I was just going to enjoy it.

"The atmosphere was incredible so I will enjoy every second here. Hopefully, we just win the league and will see what will happen.".
