Arsenal will be without youngster Ethan Nwaneri for their clash against Manchester United this weekend. The teenager is out of action due to a muscle injury and is poised for a spell on the sidelines. The Red Devils head down to London on Sunday afternoon as they prepare to face the Gunners in the third round of the FA Cup.

Ruben Amorim’s side head into the tie on the back of their 2-2 draw away at Liverpool . Lisandro Martinez and Amad Diallo scored United’s goals at Anfield. Harry Maguire missed a late chance to win the game for the visitors.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has shared this update on Nwaneri’s situation ahead of their loss to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup: “Unfortunately he has picked up an injury and is going to be out for a few weeks. Muscular injury.” Attacker Kai Havertz returned to action against Newcastle as did Raheem Sterling.

United will be in for a tricky test against the Gunners as they look to progress into the next round. The Red Devils have the chance to bring in some new players into their squad this month with the January transfer window open for business. Arsenal head into their match against United on the back of their 2-0 loss at home to Newcastle United on Tuesday night in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

They have given themselves a big task in the second leg in the North East next month as they look to reach Wembley. Arteta has insisted that his team are still in it: “There’s a long way [to go], it’s just half-time. It’s very disappointing because the performance and dominance in the game doesn’t reflect the scoreline unfortunately.

We could have done better in the two goals that we conceded and with the amount of shots and situations that we generated, we should have scored at least two or three goals. “With the scenario that we have which has been very tricky, we perform and produce what we can in the game so no excuses about that. Let’s move on, it’s just half-time.

The team showed today that we can go up there and win the game in the manner that we need to in order to be in the final.” He added: “We’ll focus on the performance of today; what we have done, why we didn’t win the game and understand that and make improvements as with every game, and recharge. We need a lot of energy, we have a big game here against Man United in a different competition, so let’s move on.

“You have to turn things around. Today it was a night that was really important. As I said before, I don’t think the performance and dominance reflect the result, and you have to take it.

It’s frustrating, but that’s football.”.
