Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Kentwood man in connection with a double shooting at a bar located between Kentwood and Osyka, Mississippi. Carlones Lee Coleman Jr., 25, was booked on March 11 for attempted second-degree murder and illegal discharge of a weapon.

Around 1:30 a.m. on Feb.

1, the agency received a report of a shooting outside a bar located in the 78000 block of U.S. Highway 51 that resulted in two individuals, a 26-year-old man and a 29-year-old man, being shot.

Both men were hospitalized; both have since been released. TPSO Criminal Investigations detectives learned Coleman was already at the bar when the two other men arrived and gathered with a group outside the business. For unknown reasons, Coleman approached the group and started a dispute, TPSO reported.

When one of the victims attempted to deescalate the situation, Coleman pulled out a gun and shot him as well as the man he arrived with. The first victim drove to a nearby neighborhood for safety, where good Samaritans called 911 and provided medical assistance while waiting for first responders. The second victim called 911 from the parking lot.

TPSO detectives issued a warrant for Coleman and had been searching for him when they were alerted on Monday, March 11, that Coleman was in Hammond trying to buy a gun. After he was declined for the sale based on the warrant, he was pulled over by Hammond police on West Thomas Street. A gun was found in his vehicle, and he was taken into custody.
