A YouGov-Amazon Alexa study ahead of World Sleep Day found that 53% of respondents across ten Indian cities experience sleep-related issues without a consistent bedtime routine. The survey also highlighted that 54% of participants reported improved sleep quality after establishing regular bedtime habits, emphasizing the importance of routine in promoting better sleep among Indian households. Households with couples were the most likely to engage in these routines. Voice assistants are increasingly integrated into sleep routines, with 52% of respondents using them to manage bedtime habits. Individuals aged 35-45 were more likely to use voice assistants than those aged 25-34, and households with couples and children were the most frequent users.

While only 27% currently engage in these activities, more than 50% expressed an interest in adopting them in the future. Couples, both with and without children, showed a stronger inclination toward incorporating these practices.

Other preferred activities include playing brain games, solving puzzles, reading, or unwinding with music or news updates.

Around 11% of respondents preferred not to follow any bedtime routine at all. Teena Sidana, Country Manager at Alexa India, noted that voice assistants are becoming a useful tool for managing bedtime routines. Features like playing meditation sessions, relaxing sounds, audiobooks, or music, setting alarms, and controlling smart home devices are helping users create personalized sleep environments.
