Chef Arnold Myint is reprising one of my favorite meals from last year with the next iteration of his Khan Toke family-style dinners at International Market on Sunday, Nov. 3. He'll be offering reservations for multiple seatings for a meal that is best enjoyed by a party of four, but he can accommodate one to six diners.
Khan Toke is a traditional service popular in Northern Thailand, and Myint has dug deep into his recipe file to come up with dishes that you won’t normally see on the menu at International Market, much less at most local Thai restaurants. The meal will be served as a four-course feast for the table after an opening welcome drink, but each salvo features multiple plates for sharing. Among the offerings he has planned are charred eggplant crudites, scallop crudo and beef jerky sticky rice as a first course; salad bites and crispy trout for the second; a main course of Burmese eggs, roasted chili prawns and Penang pot pie; and pumpkin cookies and lotus cookies for dessert.
That’s just a sampling of the menu that diners will enjoy for $110 per person, plus beverages and gratuity. Because Myint and his kitchen staff will be preparing the menu as a family-style meal for each family, substitutions and modifications will not be available. The kitchen will try to address allergies, but if you need special accommodations, this might be one to skip.
For the rest of us, make your reservations for this Sunday online and sit back to enjoy the show!.
