The latest Liverpool news and rumours as Trent Alexander-Arnold's future at Liverpool is yet to be resolved amid interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid. Arne Slot can sign the perfect replacement for Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold in Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong. That's according to ex-Red, Didi Hamann.

Alexander-Arnold has now entered the final few months of his contract - and he appears no closer to committing his future at Anfield . Reports indicate he's leaning towards a new challenge at Real Madrid , but a formal decision is yet to be communicated to the club or the fans. That said, the uncertainty hasn't stopped the rumour mill from spinning, nor has it stopped speculation over potential replacements for the right-back.

Given Alexander-Arnold's unique talents and qualities, he will be a difficult player to replace should he, ultimately, decide to move on this summer. However, Hamann believes Leverkusen's Frimpong could be the perfect addition to Slot's side, should Liverpool's current first choice right-back move on. The Reds already have a ready made replacement in Conor Bradley , but it can be argued that, due to the 21-year-old's age and reoccurring injury problems, further additions will be needed.

"I was surprised that no one signed Jeremie Frimpong last summer for around £40million. There was an option and nobody took it, but he's a brilliant player," Hamann told Poker Scout. "He has lots of pace, he scores and sets up goals, he's a very modern player and he would do a great job in the Premier League .

He's more of a wing-back than a full-back, but he would be a great player for Liverpool to have, he's give another option outside of Mohamed Salah who likes to cut in on his left foot. "Every team needs pace and he has certainly got it. He would be a good option for Liverpool if Trent Alexander-Arnold leaves.

" Frimpong, although born in Amsterdam, moved to England as a youngster and made his way in Manchester City's academy after joining at nine-years-old. He joined Celtic as a teenager in 2019, but truly made a name for himself in the Bundesliga with Leverkusen as part of Xabi Alonso's historic title-winning side. The 24-year-old last signed a contract extension with the German club in 2023 and his current deal is set to expire in the summer of 2028.

This season, Frimpong has scored four goals and also registered 11 assists in 43 appearances in all competitions so far. Join our WhatsApp community, sign up to a newsletter or listen to our podcasts HERE.
