The Huawei Kirin PC chip in question rivals the Snapdragon X laptop processors from Qualcomm and is even said to be on par with the latest M3. If that holds true, Huawei needs a lot of catching up to do, especially in terms of battery life. The latest Snapdragon X processors are built on a 4-nanometer process node, and the Apple M3 is built on 3-nanometer.



For context, the smaller the transistor, the better the power efficiency. Huawei relies on SMIC as its semiconductor manufacturer, and recent reports point to it being capable of producing 5-nanometer chips. Adding to that, early reports claim that the Kirin PC chip will also adopt a unified architecture similar to Apple M-Series chips.

This architecture includes all the primary parts — such as SoC and DRAM — in one package, improving its memory bandwidth and efficiency. As of writing, the Chinese giant hasn’t mentioned anything yet about working on a Kirin PC chip. In another news, Huawei is also said to be cooking a MateBook laptop powered by HarmonyOS in the coming months.
