Arlene Harris: Day five with no power and the novelty of wearing an overcoat while playing cards by candlelight is starting to wear off

When Storm Éowyn swept Ireland on Friday, 768,000 ESB Networks customers lost their power. At the time of writing on Tuesday lunchtime, it had been restored to 600,000 homes, farms and businesses across the country, but 168,000 remained in the dark.

When Storm Éowyn swept Ireland on Friday, 768,000 ESB Networks customers lost their power. At the time of writing on Tuesday lunchtime, it had been restored to 600,000 homes, farms and businesses across the country, but 168,000 remained in the dark. Unfortunately, I am one of those customers affected, and today is the fifth day that my home, and almost 200 other properties in my immediate area, are without light or heat.
