Cloudy skies with some gusty winds as highs creep upward close to the 70° mark. On Saturday we should see temperatures start to rise with a high of 69 degrees in the forecast. Wind gusts will be in the 20-25 mph range in Phoenix.

Despite the warming trend, sunny skies should give way to a range of clouds throughout the weekend. PHOENIX - After a chilly week, temperatures are gradually climbing into the weekend. Saturday afternoon highs should hover around 69 degrees in Phoenix .

Overnight temperatures will consistently slip into the middle 40s over the weekend. In northern Arizona , while still cold, the low temperatures should be less chilling than on previous days-- in the teens and 20s instead of single digits. Expect those temperatures to peak before sunset times of 5:53 on Saturday and 5:54 on Sunday.

A mostly cloudy sky is expected on Saturday. Winds will also increase over the weekend with gusts of 20-25 mph in Phoenix and 25-35 mph in northern Arizona. The breezy to windy weather will actually last into early next week, too.

Dig deeper: All eyes are on a winter storm expected to develop this weekend along the West Coast. The system will drop in from the north and run down California. As it moves across California, it will bring some much-needed rain to areas impacted by the wildfires.

This storm system will then slowly track to the east. Latest data suggests a slightly slower timeline, which brings rain and snow into northwestern Arizona beginning around Sunday evening. The moisture should spread eastward across Arizona on Monday, giving the Valley a chance for rain and the High Country a chance for snow.

The system then very slowly passes over Arizona into Tuesday and Wednesday, which will result in lingering scattered rain/snow shower chances. For Phoenix, the current forecast is a 30% chance of showers on Monday and 20% on Tuesday with an isolated chance on Wednesday. While it is too early for official snow forecasts, it appears likely at least an inch of accumulating snow is possible at our higher elevations, like in Flagstaff.

The storm will also bring cool air to the state. After reaching the upper 60s on Sunday, Phoenix is forecast to cap in the low to middle 60s on Monday and the upper 50s to low 60s on Tuesday and Wednesday.
