MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. — A jury has convicted a man of murdering his aunt at an East Valley home in 2019 when the defendant was 14. Ares Adle was found guilty of second-degree murder following the recent end of his trial in Maricopa County Superior Court.

He's scheduled to be sentenced in December. The victim, 42-year-old Tonya Harper, was stabbed to death at a home in Sun Lakes. Harper and several other relatives came into town for a family reunion and were staying at the family's house.

Prosecutors said the knife believed to have been used to kill Harper was hidden in Adle's closet. It was not clear to prosecutors why the defendant killed his family member.
