Area sheriffs say they follow state on enforcement of immigration law

A court decision in Massachusetts prohibits local officials here from working with federal immigration officials in some instances.

Hampshire County Sheriff Patrick Cahillane said in a statement Friday that his office would not hold or detain anyone solely at the request of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

His counterpart in Hampden County, Sheriff Nicholas Cocchi, agrees. more news from Western Massachusetts.
