Work will be done in South Point, ChesapeakeAqua is set to begin a series of water system improvement projects in its Lawrence County distribution system. “The purpose of this project is to increase water flow and improve reliability of service in the project areas located in Chesapeake and South Point,” said Aqua Ohio’s Area Manager Dave Dunn.“We are replacing copper and galvanized pipes with polyethylene pipes that will never corrode.

”The project areas include:• In South Point, Township Road 1021 from Township Road 1020 to County Road 1• Also in South Point, TownshipRoad 1022 from Township Road 1021, east to the end of the road • In Chesapeake, Rossilyn Street and Township Road 1042 from Township Road 1043 to the end of Township Road 1042.The three projects involve replacing more than 2,260 linear feet of one and two-inch copper and iron pipes that have been in service for more than 75 years. Crews will also install several new valves along the mains to isolate sections of main for future maintenance or repairs.



The combined budget for the projects is $250,000.CJ Hughes Construction Company Inc. of Huntington, West Virginia, will be doing the work, which is expected to begin this week and conclude by the end of June.

Traffic will be maintained but flows may need to be adjusted temporarily when work is active in the immediate area. Drivers are asked to use extra caution and be mindful of workers that may be in travel lanes.New Aqua-owned service lines will be installed for 28 customers.

Those customers will experience short-term service disconnections near the end of the project as their properties are connected to the new mains. They will be notified in advance of the interruptions.In Lawrence County, Aqua serves approximately 3,500 customers with water service and 4,800 customers with wastewater service.
