‘April showers for Easter week’ Met Eireann warn of ‘prolonged rain’ and possible thunderstorms

THE country will be hit with April showers all week – some prolonged with a “chance of hail and isolated thunderstorms”.Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather said: “A cool morning with some well scattered showers in the west but sunny spells also. com“Showers will increase with some locally heavy downpours but also areas escaping.”Met Eireann’s Andrew Doran Sherlock said: “Well our weather will be more unsettled and cooler than it has been of late and it really will be a case of April showers for much of the coming week.Today will have a dry start before the rain hits by the afternoon.



Andrew said: “Now this morning, while it’s dry for most with sunny spells developing, scattered showers in the west will extend eastwards through the morning and afternoon bringing a chance of hail and isolated thunderstorms. “And more prolonged showers will then develop in the west in the evening. Highs of 9C to 13C.

”Tonight will bring a mix of “cloud and clear spells with showers”, some prolonged with hail.Monday will see a mix of sunshine and showers.Andrew said: “Tomorrow it will be similar in that there’ll be sunny spells and scattered showers extending eastwards again bringing a chance of hail and thunder.

“The showers will ease during the evening. Highs of 10C to 13C or 14C.”Tuesday it will be a cloudy day with some light rain.

Alan continued: “On Tuesday there’ll likely be cloudy conditions over eastern parts through much of the day with just a few light showers. “Further west there’ll be sunny spells and well scattered light showers. “Highs of 9C to 13C in light to moderate north westerly breezes.

”There’s uncertainty on the cards for Wednesday as rain moves in. He said: “There’s some uncertainty for Wednesday but it looks like the west and south will have sunny spells and scattered showers.“But it’ll be cloudier in the north and east with some rain possibly moving in from the Irish Sea.

Highs again of just 9C to 13C.”The meteorologist added: “And indications are then that Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be days of sunny spells and scattered showers with the continued possibility of hail and thunder. “Highs generally ranging between 9C and 12C.
