A new tenant could finally be moving into an empty town centre store shortly, if new plans are given the green light. The former Wilko store in Holland Market, Spalding, has stood empty for over a year after a rescue deal to save the well-known brand collapsed. Now site owners, Schroder Real Estate Investment Management Ltd, has applied to South Holland District Council to alter the exterior of the unit.
The application’s design and access statement said: “The purpose of the new planning application is provide minor alterations to the existing unit to facilitate the new incoming tenants’ store requirements.” At the front, they have applied to replace one of the entrance doors with a window display. They have also applied to remove further windows at the front and back of the store.
The investment firm is also asking to replace roller shutter with a double steel store set. Wilko’s shut its doors for the final time in September 2023, ending a long association with the town. The store is one of two vacant units at Holland Market.
The other is the former Argos store , which has been empty since the business moved into a new concession in the Sainsbury’s store last year. What do you think? Post a comment below..
