5K 'Wukong Screen' powered by BOE Budget Apple Vision Pro could be slimmer and brighter https://t.co/PJkg4J42Z2 #Apple — AppleInsider (@appleinsider) November 6, 2024 In 2023, there were indications that a future iteration of the Apple Vision Pro would feature a display with improved brightness over the original model. By June 2024, reports emerged suggesting that Apple was seeking additional component suppliers for this new headset.
According to The Elec, Apple is evaluating two display options, with a preference for one that is more streamlined than the current display technology used in the Apple Vision Pro. Both alternatives involve the integration of a color filter into an OLED panel, although one option necessitates the addition of a secondary layer. Apple is said to favor an OLED display glass panel that features a color filter for red, green, and blue applied on top.
This technology, known as W-OLED+CF, is anticipated to enhance the brightness of displays in the upcoming Apple Vision Pro. It has been reported that Apple is targeting a resolution of 1,500 pixels per inch (ppi) for its upcoming display. This figure stands in contrast to the existing resolution of approximately 3,391 ppi found in the original Apple Vision Pro.
It is anticipated that Samsung will create the W-OLED+CF panel for Apple. Reports indicate that the company intends to install research equipment to facilitate this development. Previously, Samsung has been noted for its objective to provide Apple with this technology.
In particular, the current OLEDoS (OLED on Silicon) display panels used in the Apple Vision Pro utilize a variant of W-OLED+CF, whereas Samsung possesses a method to integrate RGB pixels directly into the panel. In this scenario, a color filter would be applied to one substrate, while W-OLED would be deposited onto the other.
