Apple Studios and A24, a film production company, have partnered to create a movie based on the life of Sam Bankman-Fried, the ex-CEO of the FTX cryptocurrency exchange. This film is based on the best-selling book Going Infinite: The Rise and Fall of a New Tycoon by Michael Lewis. The book, which details the rise to the sudden implosion of FTX, has generated great interest because of Bankman-Fried’s convictions on numerous fraud, money laundering, and other financial crimes.
The movie’s script will be authored by Lena Dunham, widely renowned for the HBO series Girls. Dunham has a track record as a creator, writer, and director and is expected to bring a unique perspective to the story. The film is based on Bankman-Fried’s journey from an ambitious upstart to his downfall and the consequences of his fall.
The agreement with the book's rights was completed in September of 2023, and before the book’s release, Apple paid $5 million. Civil lawsuits with Bankman-Fried spotlighted his deception of customers and investors and the mismanagement of the funds. During his trial, he was accused of being strategic and wanting to be in a position of authority.
The legal case ended with him receiving 25 years in prison and the order of forfeiture of $11 billion. Apart from the planned film from Apple Studios and A24, other prospective works based on the life of Sam Bankman-Fried are in development. Amazon is creating a limited series based on the FTX crash.
David Weil will write the script, and Russo may direct the series. This series will comprise eight episodes, and the hosts hope that after watching it, the audience will understand all the factors contributing to the FTX’s collapse. In addition, the director, Nanette Burstein, is preparing a documentary dedicated to the story of Bankman-Fried's rise and collapse.
Burstein is a popular writer who has contributed to several prestige documentaries. The documentary is expected to offer an in-depth examination of Bankman-Fried’s life and the consequences of his actions.Many projects associated with Bankman-Fried show that the public and the media actively discuss the topic of the FTX scandal.
