A new report from The Times of India claims that Apple has sent five cargo planes of iPhones to the U.S. from India to stockpile iPhones in the country to avoid import tariffs later in the year.

The report mentions that there were other Apple products as well, but the shipments focused mostly on iPhones. Trump’s 10 per cent tariff on India went into effect on April 5, so Apple was trying to get as many products onto U.S.

soil as possible to avoid paying the import costs. Other factories in China have reportedly also been sending heavy shipments to the U.S.

to get ahead of those tariffs. Stockpiling products will allow Apple to go longer without having to increase prices or lose profit margins by dealing with unforeseen and rapidly changing tariffs. Since the iPhone gets a new model every year Apple has more leeway to adjust the pricing on a yearly basis without much of a blowback.

Nintendo on the other hand usually carries one price through the entire multi-year life of its console, which is likely the reason the Japanese company is rethinking the pricing of the Switch 2. In the U.S.

there are tons of varying reports of what the iPhone and other tech products are going to cost under the new Trump tariffs which has reportedly led to an uptick in sales as people try to make their tech purchases before prices potentially rise later in the year. So far Canada has avoided tech increases, but the Switch 2 will likely be a marker letting us know how worried we should be about this throughout the rest of 2025. Source: eMarketer , Times of India.
