Foxconn, Apple’s key supplier, is set to more than double iPhone production in India, aiming to assemble up to 30 million units in 2025. According to a report by The Economic Times, this marks a significant expansion of Apple’s local manufacturing push. In 2024, Foxconn produced around 12 million iPhones in India, and the planned increase aligns with Apple’s broader strategy to reduce reliance on China and strengthen its presence in India’s growing smartphone market.

These tests will assess the plant’s readiness to scale and align with Apple’s expectations before full-scale manufacturing begins. According to industry sources, this phase is crucial for evaluating whether the facility can handle mass production without compromising quality. Once the trials are successfully completed, Foxconn will transition to the "revenue build" phase, where iPhones assembled in India will be shipped for both domestic sales and exports.
This expansion coincides with the Indian government's policy push to boost local electronics manufacturing. As part of the latest Union Budget, the government has introduced reduced import duties on smartphone components, a move that is expected to benefit Foxconn and other manufacturers.
