Apple’s iPads have consistently led in hardware innovation, recently debuting models powered by the advanced M4 chip and with plans for an M5 chip-based iPad later this year. However, the software has often lagged behind the hardware’s capabilities.
With the upcoming iPadOS revamp expected at WWDC 2025, Apple may finally be aligning its software power with its cutting-edge hardware—though the exact details of these enhancements remain under wraps for now. This overhaul will focus on updating the visual style of icons, menus, apps, windows, and system buttons, aiming to create a more unified and consistent look across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and visionOS.

Internally, the revamp efforts are reportedly codenamed “Luck” for iOS 19 and iPadOS 19, and “Cheer” for macOS 16.
Gurman describes this as the most significant software upgrade for the Mac since the 2020 shift to Apple Silicon, and the biggest for the iPhone since iOS 7 in 2013..
