Apple is reportedly eyeing the smart glasses market, potentially taking on Meta’s popular Ray-Ban collaboration. Meta’s smart glasses, which feature a built-in camera, AI, and voice command capabilities to interact with the environment, have already captured the attention of content creators and vloggers. Having used Meta’s Ray-Bans myself, I can say they’re a great option, especially for those who want a seamless way to capture content while on the go.

At the moment, Meta has little competition in this space, but that could soon change if Apple decides to enter the market. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple has begun an internal survey to explore the smart glasses market and is collecting feedback from its employees. The company has kicked off an internal study of current smart glasses products, with its Product Systems Quality team inviting employees to participate in a “user study on current market smart glasses.

” This is typical for Apple, which often uses focus groups made up of its own staff when considering whether to enter a new market. The advantage of this approach is that it allows Apple to keep its plans under wraps, avoiding public leaks that could happen if it engaged outside testers. NEW: Apple is exploring a push into smart glasses with an internal study of products currently on the market, setting the stage for the company to follow Meta into an increasingly popular category.

The glasses could feature the basics you’d expect: a camera, Siri voice assistant, and built-in speakers for listening to music or making calls.

Health features could also be on the table, building on the health-tracking capabilities already seen in the Apple Watch. If this happens, Apple’s smart glasses could not only serve as a stylish accessory but also a multifunctional piece of wearable tech. Some rumors suggest that Apple may opt for a simpler version of smart glasses, one with just a camera, speakers, and AI, before it ventures into the more complex world of augmented reality (AR) glasses.

Think of them as an upgraded version of the AirPods, only with a sleek design that’s wearable on your face. With camera integration, Siri, and health features, these smart glasses could attract users looking for an easy-to-use, everyday wearable. MacRumors points out that making smart glasses with just a camera, speakers, and AI features would be within Apple’s capabilities, helping the company boost its wearable tech sales as it continues to work on its more ambitious AR glasses.

While Apple has faced challenges with developing AR glasses due to high costs and technical difficulties, the employee feedback it gathers could help shape a product that better meets consumer needs. If Apple decides to launch its smart glasses, it could shake up the wearable tech market. Whether it can rival Meta’s Ray-Bans is still uncertain, but it’s clear that competition in this space is about to get a lot more interesting.
