Apple is reportedly planning a significant visual overhaul for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS later this year, according to Bloomberg. Read: Bandwidth Blog & Smile 90.4FM Tech Tuesday: Apple iPhone 16e! The redesign, expected with iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16, will revamp core elements of the operating systems.

This includes “updating the style of icons, menus, apps, windows and system buttons,” aiming to simplify user experience and create greater consistency across Apple’s software ecosystem. The design is said to draw inspiration from visionOS, the operating system powering the Vision Pro. Bloomberg describes these changes as the most substantial for macOS since Big Sur and for iOS since iOS 7.

However, Apple will maintain distinct operating systems, refuting any notion of a merger. Apple is anticipated to unveil these design updates at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), typically held in June. The company has yet to announce the specific date for this year’s event.
