Today alongside iOS 18.4 and its various other software updates, Apple has shipped brand new firmware for AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4. Here’s what you should know.

4, macOS 15.4, and the company’s other software updates, it’s possible this new firmware ties in to certain features of Apple’s latest software updates. The new AirPods firmware build is version 7E93 .
Until now, the current firmware version was 7B21. It was released all the way back in November . That last update didn’t include any feature changes, only “Bug fixes and other improvements” per Apple’s release notes.
Apple’s AirPods firmware site doesn’t yet list details on what’s included in the new 7E93 build, but it’s likely more of the same. Bug fixes and miscellaneous improvements tend to be the common changes in new firmware versions. Updating your AirPods Pro 2 or AirPods 4 firmware Apple says that firmware updates install automatically in the background.
However, if you want to try making that installation happen sooner rather than later, the company provides the following tips: Make sure that your iPhone, iPad, or Mac is updated to the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, or macOS. Make sure that your AirPods are in Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac that’s connected to Wi-Fi. Connect your charging case to power.
Put your AirPods in their charging case and close the lid. Keep the lid of the charging case closed, and wait at least 30 minutes for the firmware to update. Open the lid of the charging case to reconnect your AirPods to your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
