Apple unveiled the latest version of its professional video editing software, Final Cut Pro 11. The new release includes a host of new features, including an AI masking tool, automatic caption generation and spatial video editing. Final Cut Pro 11’s Magnetic Mask allows users to isolate people or objects in a clip without a green screen.
Transcribe to Captions is powered by an Apple-trained large language model that transcribes spoken audio. The new Final Cut Pro 11 will also let users edit Spatial Video captured via the iPhone 15 Pro series, iPhone 16 series or Canon R7 paired with an RF-S7.8mm F4 STM DUAL lens.
Users can import Spatial Video footage, add effects, make color corrections and adjust depth positions. Final Cut Pro 11 will also show left and right eye angles on supported Mac displays and will also work inside the Vision Pro. Apple’s new Final Cut Pro 11 will run on all Macs with macOS Sonoma with at least 8GB RAM, though some features will require Apple Silicon chips.
Apple is also pushing an update to the Final Cut iPad app with Final Cut Pro 2.1, which will require an M1 chip or later or an iPad mini (A17 Pro) and iPadOS 17.6 or later.
The iPad version gains Enhance Light and Color features, allowing for precise color, color balance, contrast, and brightness corrections. Apple also added a new vertical pinch gesture for expanding and minimizing clip height in the timeline. Final Cut Pro 2.
1 on iPad iPad users are also getting a Live Drawing feature, which can add animations to videos. Users are also getting timeline support for recordings at 90 fps, 100 fps, and 120 fps from iPhone 16 Pro. Apple also announced a new version of the Final Cut Camera app for iPhone and iPad.
Final Cut Camera 1.1 now supports HEVC files in Apple Log, LUT previews during recordings and a new level indicator with tilt and roll indicators and a crosshair for top-down shots. Final Cut Pro 11 for Mac is a $299 one-time purchase, though Apple is offering new users a free 90-day trial.
Current paying users will also get all the new updates for free. Final Cut Pro for iPad costs $4.99/month or $49 annually .
