The Toy Drive workshop is already in full swing and is bustling with activity as council volunteers, affectionately dubbed "elves," coordinate and wrap gifts for distribution. The initiative aims to provide a festive experience for children and young people who might otherwise go without during the holiday season. Southend Council is continuing to appeal for donations and are specifically in need of gifts for 12 years and above.

This includes new toys - suitable for both girls and boys up to the age of 17, vouchers for toys or days out, selection packs, pens and colouring books, and toiletry sets. They also ask for batteries to be included if the toys require them. Anyone still wishing to donate needs to do so by Friday, December 13.

Councillor Daniel Cowan, leader of Southend Council, said: “I am thrilled to see the Toy Drive in full swing. "The generosity of our community never ceases to amaze me, and we can make this Christmas truly special for these children and young people. "A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has donated so far.

"While every donation is appreciated, we are in specific need of gifts for children aged 12 years and older, so please consider this if you plan to make a donation this year.” Supporters can purchase gifts directly from Argosy Toys or Toys 'n' Tuck stores, with council elves set to collect these. Online purchases from Argosy Toys' website can also be delivered directly to the drive by selecting the "Toy Drive" option for delivery.

Toys 'n' Tuck's online store has a similar "Southend Toy Drive" donation option. The council also welcomes direct deliveries of donations to the Civic Centre or The Forum. For any questions regarding the toy drive, residents can reach out via phone at 01702 215841 or email at toydrive@southend.
