LAGOS – Akintunde Armstrong, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress from Ogun State, has refuted claims suggesting that he imposed candidates for the councilorship positions in Iperu Wards 3 and 5 within Ikenne Local Government Area of the state. As per a report on Thursday, the chieftain was accused of bragging about using money and power to enforce his two loyalists, Olaleye Babatunde and Osularu Olabanjo Muyiwa, as the councilorship candidates for the party in the local government elections scheduled for November 16 in the state. Armstrong was also reportedly heard boasting that not even Governor Dapo Abiodun, who hails from one of these wards, could thwart his plans of the alleged imposition.

On Friday, the Iperu Remo-born politician refuted any claims of stating he would use a whopping $80,000 to secure the councilorship tickets for his two loyalists in the two wards. He labeled the report as “the ranting of rudderless opposition aimed at tarnishing my reputation, misleading the public, and gaining political advantage on the cheap.” Armstrong expressed, “I am completely taken aback and astonished by these baseless and outright lies being spread by some opposition figures.

” “How can someone, in their right mind, in this tough economy, boast about splurging $80,000, which is no less than N120 million, to enforce councilorship candidates? It’s absolute nonsense and deceitful claims. “They also alleged that I bragged about being unstoppable even by the governor. Isn’t that the height of foolishness? Governor Dapo Abiodun is my leader and mentor; he leads the party, and I follow his lead.

So, their falsehoods and attempts to discredit me before the governor hold no truth. “The circulating video actually discusses the funds allocated by the Dapo Abiodun Continuity Agenda to further support and empower party members, consistent with the group’s activities across the state since its inception in 2019.” He reaffirmed his allegiance to the governor and the party, emphasizing his commitment to aiding the party in selecting suitable candidates and ensuring a resounding victory in the upcoming local government elections.
