From Abel Leonard, Lafia The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed confidence in Senator Ned Nwoko’s victory in the 2027 Delta North senatorial election, stating that his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will not hinder his political future but rather strengthen his chances under the ruling party. According to a statement signed by the Executive Director of Legacy Dream and made available to journalists by Michael Igar, media consultant to Senator Ned Nwoko, on Wednesday, an APC chieftain dismissed claims that Nwoko’s departure from the PDP would mark the end of his political career. Speaking on the 2027 race, APC chieftain Chief Ikechukwu Chukwudi emphasised that the party has already settled on Nwoko as its preferred candidate, adding that there is no need for further speculation.

“Delta North APC is not looking for a senatorial candidate. It is generally understood and a known fact among the APC leaders of this district,” Chukwudi stated. “The assumption or false propaganda that his exit from the PDP will spell the end of his adventure at the National Assembly is rather a figment of the imagination,” the statement read.

Chukwudi recalled Nwoko’s previous political contests, particularly in 2011 when he contested on the platform of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) against Senator Ifeanyi Okowa of the PDP. “Prince Ned pulled so much support that many believed he won the election but had to be placated to allow things to go the way they eventually did,” he noted. He also referenced Nwoko’s 2019 battle for the PDP senatorial ticket against Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, describing it as a contest marred by alleged internal party irregularities.

“Opinions were rampant on how over-voting made a mess of the whole primary affair, warranting the intervention of the then governor to fund a resolution,” Chukwudi said. With Nwoko now in APC, Chukwudi expressed confidence that his affiliation with the ruling party and his track record of performance would give him an edge in the 2027 senatorial race. “For the first time in his political career, Senator Ned Nwoko will run for Senate with the backing of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ruling party and on the heels of a superlative performance,” he said.

He further challenged the PDP’s ability to field a formidable candidate against Nwoko, insisting that no one in the opposition party could match his political influence. “Think of anyone the PDP could give its Delta North senatorial ticket in 2027, call the person’s name, and accept that they will be no match for Senator Ned Nwoko,” Chukwudi declared..
