KAJANG: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that Malaysia's new ambassador to the United States has received the consent of the His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.Anwar said the new candidate will be announced soon."The candidate for the US envoy will be announced very soon.
A decision has already been made, and His Majesty the King has given his consent."We will make an official announcement. The process is underway.
Just be patient for another day or two," he told reporters after performing Friday prayers at Masjid Prima Saujana today.On Feb 8, Malaysia's Ambassador to the US, Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, confirmed that his two-year term had officially ended.Several names have been proposed to fill the vacancy.
Among those suggesting potential candidates was former Bangi Member of Parliament Ong Kian Ming, who proposed five names for consideration.The names included PKR vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar and Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.Other suggested candidates include former CIMB chairman Tan Sri Nazir Razak, former Member of Parliament Yusmadi Yusoff, and Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia chairman Faiz Abdullah.
Ong was reported as saying that Faiz had contributed valuable input to the Prime Minister on foreign policy, while Nurul Izzah is one of his closest aides, and Tengku Zafrul has proven himself a trusted minister under Anwar's leadership.Nazir is widely known as an influential corporate figure, while Yusmadi has long been part of Anwar's trusted inner circle.© New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd.
