Wherever Manchester United goes, drama follows closely behind and Antony has just broken his silence on his relationship with Ruben Amorim. Antony went on loan to Real Betis till the end of the season and has already blown past the wildest expectations set for him. Combine that with Marcus Rashford’s good form for Aston Villa, and Ruben Amorim wasn’t at the end of the most polite questions.

Ruben Amorim put an asterisk on Antony’s form in Spain, something which the Brazilian’s agent didn’t take too kindly to. Now the player himself has set the record straight. He played multiple positions, came off the bench or was hooked off regularly, and never really seemed to earn Amorim’s trust. His manager at Betis, Manuel Pellegrini even lamented lack of trust in Antony’s ability in Manchester as one of the reasons behind his failure. Speaking to ESPN, via Fabrizio Romano, Antony has now given the low-down on his dynamic with Ruben Amorim amidst all the noise.

He said: “I’ve only had a short time working with Amorim, but he’s a very good, intelligent coach. United are going through a difficult time, but he’s a good coach. I had good relationship with him but I needed new challenge.

I wish him best luck in the world.”🔴🇧🇷 Antony: “I've only had a short time working with Amorim, but he's a very good, intelligent coach”.“United are going through a difficult time, but he's a good coach.

twitter.com/tKW3wxHbFR— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) April 19, 2025Antony’s professionalism can’t be doubtedUnlike his agent, the Brazilian has given an extremely professional response which sums up his time at Old Trafford.Even when things weren’t going perfectly for him, he wasn’t someone who would upend the dressing room or give the manager reasons to complain.

It is fairly likely that he has played his last game for United, regardless of whether he stays at Betis or moves elsewhere. These displays of professionalism will only help his stock unlike the case of, say, Marcus Rashford, who has silently burned all his bridges at Man Utd with the manager. Man Utd fans will be rooting for Antony’s success even though it didn’t work out the way everyone hoped.
