Antiques Road Trip star David Harper branded Roo Irvine a "complete nightmare" as he pointed out one of her unusual habits. The antique experts have been close friends since Roo joined the BBC programme in 2015, five years after David made his debut. In between filming an episode of the show around two years ago, David, 58, revealed he "adores" Roo, labelling her as one of his "favourite people on the planet".
While taking a break from shooting scenes, David interviewed Roo on his YouTube channel, hoping to learn about the Scottish presenter's passions outside of antiques. When Roo revealed the simple answer was food, David explained why going for a meal with his co-star can often be frustrating. "When we go out for dinner, Roo is great company but she is a complete nightmare because, talk about reading the menu, she reads the menus back to front and has discussions with chefs," David told his subscribers.
"It really gets on my nerves," he declared. "All I want to do is order the very first thing and then when you order, you order everything!" This led Roo to recall the time they went for dinner at a chinese restaurant and David tasked her with ordering the food for him. "The table was heaving but how much did you love the food?" the BBC host asked.
David confessed it was one of the best night's out that he's had before complementing Roo's culinary skills. "Roo and her husband came to my house not very long ago and Roo cooked. It was the most exquisite cooking on the planet," he recounted.
The Bargain Hunt star then probed Roo about a potential career in cooking. Asked if she would become a TV chef, Roo explained why this particular venture wouldn't be possible. "I love cooking but I'm low and slow.
So my perfect dishes can take hours. I can't do three meals in one hour," Roo said. "But I would love to present in the world of food.
I'd be a food critic or a taster." During the same interview, Roo opened up about her Scottish roots and explained why she returned home after living in London for a decade. "I did live in London for 10 years but Scotland will always be my home.
Irn-Bru runs through my veins, haggis is in my heart. I'm purely Scottish," she said. But David noted that Roo was keeping something from viewers as he asked her to reveal where she was actually born.
Roo pleaded with her co-star to not answer, but eventually gave in. "I was born in Hillingdon, near Uxbridge," the star revealed. Roo explained that she lived in Southall but her father moved the family to Scotland when she was four, ultimately saving her from "being a Southall girl".
"Nothing wrong with that," she clarified before declaring: "But in my heart, I am purely Scottish.".
