Remember the winter morning of February 7, 1999, when Anil Kumble made history by becoming the second bowler in international Test cricket to take all 10 wickets in a single innings, that too against Pakistan? Now, a similar 10-wicket feat has been achieved, this time by another "AK" — Anshul Kamboj . Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj, bought by Mumbai Indians in last year’s IPL auction, entered the record books on Friday by becoming only the third bowler in Ranji Trophy history to claim all 10 wickets in an innings . Bowling against Kerala on Day 3 of their fifth-round match in Lahli, Kamboj tore through Kerala’s top-order, dismissing each of the four half-centurions by tea, ultimately reaching the remarkable milestone.
Along the way, he also surpassed 50 First-Class wickets in his 19th appearance. Kamboj had closed the previous evening with eight wickets. In the first over of the morning, he bowled Basil Thampi for his ninth wicket and then completed his 10-wicket milestone by dismissing Shoun Roger, bundling Kerala out for 291 in the first innings.
Kamboj’s final figures were an astonishing: 30.1-9-49-10. Kamboj is only the third bowler in Ranji Trophy history to take all 10 wickets in an innings, joining Premangsu Mohan Chatterjee of Bengal and Pradeep Sunderam of Rajasthan.
Chatterjee first accomplished the feat in the 1956-57 season, and Sunderam did so against Vidarbha in 1985-86. This was Kamboj’s first 10-wicket haul in First-Class cricket, bringing his career tally to 57 wickets from 19 matches at an average of 24.
14. Born on December 6, 2000, in Karnal, Haryana, Kamboj is a seam-bowling all-rounder with 358 First-Class runs to his name. Across List A, First-Class, and T20 cricket, he has taken a total of 97 wickets.
Kamboj recently represented India A in the Emerging Asia Cup, where he took four wickets in three matches, including a player-of-the-match performance with figures of 3/33 against Pakistan Shaheens. Earlier, he finished as the top wicket-taker in the 2024-25 Duleep Trophy for India C, with 16 wickets across five innings at an average of 17.12, including a best of 8/69 against India B.
Kamboj also made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut earlier this year for Mumbai Indians, taking two wickets in three games. Additionally, he played a key role in Haryana’s Vijay Hazare Trophy triumph in the 2023-24 season, claiming 17 wickets from 10 matches.
