Gang rape continues to be a disturbing and rising threat in our country, raising serious concerns about the effectiveness of our law enforcement agencies. In a recent horrifying incident, eight men allegedly gang-raped a 15-year-old maid in Malikpura Muhallah, Faisalabad, over the course of five days. According to a news report, the victim’s mother stated in the FIR—registered by Faisalabad Saddar police under Section 375-A of the PPC—that she had entrusted her daughter to a woman in Nawab Colony as a maid on February 28.
She alleged that the woman handed her daughter over to others, who then assaulted her from March 3 to 8. Sadly, this is not an isolated case. Such horrific incidents of rape and sexual assault are becoming increasingly frequent, and many go unreported due to societal stigma, fear, or lack of access to justice.
A comprehensive approach is urgently needed to combat the growing menace of rape, gang rape, and sexual abuse of women and girls.
