One of Cork's favourite coffee brands is planning its next expansion, and it's just got the greenlight for a new café in Wilton. The loved Soma Coffee Company have been granted permission to change a former hairdressers premises into a new coffeeshop right beside the Wilton Shopping Centre. The former Origin Hair and Beauty Salon at Cardinal Way, just off the Bishopstown Road and neighbouring the Wilton Pub, is to be transformed into a trendy new Soma café.
It's been a busy few years for the Soma crew, from humble beginnings on Tuckey Street to being one of the most recognised coffee roasters on Leeside. They have since expanded to three more locations, on Anglesea Street, in Douglas and most notably as The Black Market's flagship coffee spot – where all Soma coffee is roasted with a state-of-the-art roaster, the only one of its kind in Ireland. They supply beans to cafés and restaurants across Cork, so even if you've never been to a Soma location, you've probably had their coffee.
It's another boost for what seems to be a booming café trade in Cork. Just this week, we reported how Carrigtwohill-based Bakestone will be opening in the city center, taking over the former Perry Street Market Café premises. Meanwhile, Priory Coffee Co.
opened its 8th location at a newly refurbished café in the heart of Ballincollig..
