A 28-year-old youth died during treatment at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College Hospital on Friday. His family has alleged gross medical negligence and the unavailability of doctors at the hospital. According to Medical Superintendent-cum-Vice Principal Dr. Saptarshi Chatterjee, Bikram was rushed to trauma care for a CT scan as soon as he was brought to the hospital. “His two limbs had major injuries.
We also found that there was a major injury to his head. He was taken for a CT scan. While the CT scan was being planned, Bikram was gasping to breathe.
He passed away and was declared clinically dead,” Chatterjee said. Doctors are asking for their workplace to be made safer, while also advocating for the rights of a 31-year-old.
Interestingly, the Supreme Court has recently made a plea, urging these same protesting doctors to return to their duties.
