Another challenge for Jodi Sta. Maria

Jodi Sta. Maria credits film director Derick Cabrido for convincing her to try horror anew via Regal Entertainment’s “Untold.” According to Jodi, she thought 2019’s “Clarita” would be her last incursion into the genre.

But she had to forego the decision when Derick showed her the script of “Untold.” “Nagustuhan ko kasi hindi siya yung usual script na nababasa ko, kakaiba siya,” she said. “And, of course, I really wanted to work again with Derick,” she added.



“Gusto ko siyang katrabaho kasi very collaborative siya.” Note the film is her first with Regal Entertainment. “It’s another factor,” Jodi admitted.

“Kasi Regal is known for horror movies na pumatok at nagmarka talaga. Siyempre, parang, gusto ko rin maging parte ng legacy ng Regal.” “Untold” is a psychological horror film that follows fake news peddler Vivian Vera as played by Jodi.

It is quite timely, with Congress recently delving into the matter. Asked if she is willing, as a celebrity, to share her own take on the matter if invited by Congress, she said, “Why not? Kung ano siguro ‘yung maitutulong ko, kung sa palagay nila, importante ‘yung boses ko at ‘yung sasabihin ko, bakit naman hindi? Tulad nga ng sabi ko kanina, wala namang taong nabubuhay para sa sarili lamang. Lahat tayo, mayroon tayong responsibilidad para sa isa’t isa.

” Jodi agrees that there should be laws to prevent the proliferation of fake news. She also advised people to do their own fact-checking when it comes to information made available via the Internet. Meanwhile, Derick praised Jodi for being game all throughout the shoot, even agreeing to do difficult scenes sans double.

“ Kahit maputik, baha, madumi, sobrang game siya na gawin ‘yung mga eksena na sa tingin namin e, lalong magpapaganda sa pelikula. And I salute her for that.” Executive producer Keith Monteverde, was also impressed not only with Jodi but the rest of the cast and crew.

“The cast is super good and Direk Derick did a great job putting the film together,” said Keith. Also part of the “Untold” cast: Gloria Diaz, Joem Bascon, Sarah Edwards, Juan Karlos, and Lianne Valentin. Rated R-13, “Untold” opens in cinemas, April 30.
