Known to be way ahead of its time, Yash Chopra’s classic romantic drama Lamhe, starring Anil Kapoor, Sridevi, Anupam Kher, in lead roles completed 33 years on November 22. An emotional Kapoor decided to share a heartfelt post on social media speaking about what the film meant to him. Although the film did not work well at the box office during its release, many contemporary critics believe that it was way ahead of its time.
In one of his heartfelt interviews, Yash Chopra had revealed that Lamhe was a film which was very close to his heart and that he considered to be one of his best works, despite its box office response. Speaking of all this and how the film is also special to Anil Kapoor himself, the actor took to his Instagram story to share a note accompanied by a few unseen photos from the film, as he wrote, “Collaborating with a visionary director like Yash Chopra ji was always about creating magic on screen, not chasing numbers. For me, Lamhe was never just a film-it was an experience, a journey into emotions, and a testament to bold storytelling ahead of its time.
To this day, I'm proud to say it remains one of his finest works, and I'm deeply honored to have been a part of it. Lamhe features the story of NRI Virendra Pratap Singh aka Viren, who is in love with a woman Pallavi, eight-years older than him.
But Pallavi in love with the air force pilot Siddharth whom she later marries only to lose her life in a major accident but not before delivering her daughter Pooja. Viren, who has lost love, decides to take the help of his caretaker and mother figure Dai Jaa and entrusts her with the responsibility of Pooja. Over two decades later, Pooja has grown up to respect and love Viren whereas the latter continues to be in love with the memory of her mother but soon realizes that his love for Pooja has grown stronger.
