Interim Tranmere boss Andy Crosby was keen to credit his players after they came from a goal behind to earn a vital 2-1 win over Bromley at Prenton Park.

Michael Cheek opened the scoring for the visitors after 27 minutes, sliding in to meet Brooklyn Ilunga’s cross for his 17th goal of the season. The home side were level just five minutes later, though, when the ball dropped to Josh Hawkes, who fired home from 10 yards out. Tranmere looked rejuvenated after the break and with 20 minutes remaining, Omari Patrick secured the victory with a fine effort from the edge of the area to end a run of 12 matches without a win and move Rovers four points clear of the drop zone.

Crosby said: “The credit really does have to go to my players today. From the moment they stepped on to the pitch, the performance level was really good. “We didn’t have the height or the physicality that they did, but we had a big heart today.

“To a man their heart and desire to keep running and fighting was brilliant and this win gives the players more belief and something to hang on to in terms of what I want them to do. “We’ve played three good teams this week and we’ve been in every single game and not looked like a team down at the lower end of the table, which is credit to the players. “We’ve got five points from those games, now the players get the chance to enjoy the good times because that feeling doesn’t last for long and it feels a lot longer when you lose.

“It’s important that they go away now and enjoy the win, look at the reasons we have won, and when we come back in we focus on the next game and how we win that.” Bromley manager Andy Woodman, whose side are now 10th and five points outside the play-off places said: “I don’t think we deserved anything today, I have to be honest. “I can only be honest by our own standards and I’m not going to stand here and say we were unlucky to lose.

“We weren’t firing on all cylinders and credit to Tranmere, they’re fighting for their lives and want to get away from the trap door. “It didn’t really go our way and I think the referee will be disappointed when he watches that back, but credit to Tranmere, they’ve done a job on us today. “I know what our target is and we’re on course to meet that, and if we don’t make the play-offs I will hold my hands up and say we did everything we could.
