Google's Pixel 9 series introduced a distinctive feature within the Android ecosystem: the capability to transfer data from another device at any time, even after the initial setup has been completed. This functionality is set to be available on other Android devices in 2025, as announced by Google today. According to Google, this feature will enable users to "explore your new phone first and transfer your data later," allowing for a "swift initial setup while deferring data transfer until you are prepared." When you feel ready to proceed, you can initiate the data transfer post-setup through the Settings menu or the newly renamed Android Switch application, which is available for download from the Play Store.
Additionally, for those transitioning from an older Android device to a new one, an express setup option has been introduced, which only transfers the information stored on the device, excluding any data already backed up to the cloud. The revamped Android Switch experience "guides you through straightforward steps to set up and familiarize yourself with the features of your new device," as stated by Google, recognizing the importance of transferring essential items such as chats, calendars, contacts, and other critical information, including Wi-Fi settings, screen lock details, and Google account information.
