Andrew E. has addressed the plagiarism allegations surrounding his hit song "Humanap Ka Ng Panget." Back in 2018, the song was tagged by some netizens as an unauthorized translation of the 1988 song "Find an Ugly Woman" by DJ Cash Money and MC Marvelous.
On Monday's episode of "Fast Talk With Abunda," Andrew said the accusation against him was not "authentic." "Hindi ako ina-accuse ng mga tao na kinopya ko 'yung kanta kasi hindi naman talaga sila nag-aaccuse. Why? Kasi kung nag-aaccuse sila na kinopya ko 'yon eh bakit hindi mo in-accuse 'yung kantang 'yon na kinopya rin sa isang 1963 song?" the Filipino rapper said.
Andrew did not name the 1963 song, but based on the lyrics, Jimmy Soul's "If You Wanna Be Happy" seemed to be what he was referring to. "Humanap Ka ng Panget" was one of Andrew's most popular songs. It was released in 1990 as his debut single.
His other songs include "Banyo Queen" and "Bini B. Rocha," among others. Andrew is set to hold his first-ever major solo concert at New Frontier Theater on December 11.
