PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers wrapped up a miserable 2024-25 season on Sunday with a loss to the Chicago Bulls and the focus now turns to the future. The Sixers were expected to contend for a championship, but instead, nothing went right for them from the jump and Philadelphia will be looking to bounce back in 2025-26.Andre Drummond, one of the big additions made in the 2024 offseason, was limited to only 40 games due to a lingering toe injury.
He averaged 7.3 points and 7.8 rebounds while shooting 50% from the floor as he was one of the many Sixers who were limited.
"I think it was an interesting year," Drummond pondered. "A lot of things that are out of our control. We can't control injuries.
We can't control guys not being available. I think it's a good thing because it doesn't get any worse than this. So I think at this point we just have to recover.
Everybody get healthy. Come back ready to play next year. I’m looking forward to a great season.
I know the guys that we brought in are ready to help us get back on track again, and that's really it."The 2024-25 season was frustrating for everybody within the organization. They used 54 different unique starting lineups as they didn't know who was going to be available on a nightly basis in Philadelphia.
"I think availability," Drummond said of what made him most frustrated. "I think not knowing who we're going to play with on a nightly basis. Probably the toughest part.
It’s hard to build chemistry like that, right? I think once we get that in line, when guys are healthy, being able to play, I think once we have a structure more so of the chemistry piece, where guys are playing more games than not, I don't think there's a reason why we can't be a top team in this league."As Drummond heads into the offseason, he does have a decision to make. He has a $5 million player option for the 2025-26 season.
There is a reason why he returned to Philadelphia so at the moment, he does want to return and remain with the Sixers."This is something I said from the first day I got back here," Drummond stated on his future. "I feel like there's more work to the stuff that's missing that I haven't completed here yet, which is winning at the highest level, and I still feel that way.
I think we still have the pieces to win at the highest level, and I think I can be a big part of that, too. So my plan is to come back, but obviously whatever happens in the offseason happens, but my immediate plan is to be back here."It remains to be seen what the Sixers will do in the summer, but it's obvious that things will have to change.
Drummond wants to be a big part of that change and get them back winning at the highest level. This article originally appeared on Sixers Wire: Andre Drummond evaluates Sixers, reveals plans for his future.
